The readers of auto motor und sport have been crowning Germany’s BEST CARS now for 41 years. 123,719 respondents in Germany took part in the latest edition of this traditional vote, nominating their favourites from among 378 models in all. Since the first reader vote in 1976, it’s not just the market that has grown substantially: the size of the voting community has also increased. BEST CARS has also been conducted internationally for many years, using the same questionnaire following the same system. In 2017 the readers of 21 car magazines in no less than 17 countries took part. And yet this automotive reader survey – incidentally one of the biggest in the world – is not just about voting for individual models. In addition, survey respondents give a detailed assessment of the images of car brands on the basis of certain prescribed criteria. The verdicts pronounced by this critical, dedicated survey jury are not only awaited with suspense in the industry – they also give the automobile brands and their management an important indication of exactly where they stand.
